Lieutenant Michael Manning

Lieutenant Mike Manning began his law enforcement career in 1997 as a police officer after graduating from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy. In 1999, Lieutenant Manning joined the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff initially assigned to the Palm Desert Station of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office to safeguard the unincorporated communities and the cities of Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage.

With recognition for his field experience, he was selected to be a field training officer shortly thereafter and subsequently designated to be a member of the Career Criminal Apprehension Team. After serving in that assignment for two years he was selected to join the Palm Desert Station Burglary Suppression Team.

In 2006 he was selected to join the newly created Riverside County Gang Task Force Region 8, serving the cities of Corona, Norco and surrounding unincorporated communities in west Riverside County. After a brief assignment in the Gang Task force, Lieutenant Manning was promoted to the rank of Investigator and assigned to the Special Investigations Bureau of the Sheriff’s Department.

In 2007, Lieutenant Manning was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center (Riverside Jail) in downtown Riverside. After serving in the jail for three years, Lieutenant Manning was transferred to the Jurupa Valley Station as a patrol sergeant serving the surrounding unincorporated communities and cities of Norco, Eastvale and Jurupa Valley. In 2010, Lieutenant Manning was assigned to the city of Norco exclusively to supervise contract policing service that included a Traffic Division, Patrol Division and a Community Oriented Policing Team.

In 2012 Lieutenant Manning was selected to return to the Jurupa Valley Station as the station Detective Sergeant wherein he supervised several detectives and provided investigative services for several cities, communities, the courts and other county facilities within Riverside County.

In 2013 Lieutenant Manning was transferred to Sheriff’s Administration in downtown Riverside to the position of Public Information Officer within the Sheriff’s Department’s Media Information Bureau.

Promoted to Lieutenant in 2016, he was transferred from Sheriff’s Administration to oversee patrol operations in the unincorporated communities and the contract city of Coachella served by the Thermal Station.

Lieutenant Manning and his family reside in the Coachella Valley.
